I studied classical piano as a child, then moved on to pop and jazz. When I was forty-one I took up saxophone (I have a Selmer alto and Holton tenor) and then began singing as well. I performed nationally and internationally, released two CDs.

These days I teach two academic courses on popular music here at Tel Aviv University. Life without music is like bread without anyone to eat it.

Albums

My first CD of jazz standards (and two songs of my own) was produced by the wonderful drummer and musician Shay Zelman and released in 2005 (The Aroma of You). This was followed by "The Essential Mel" in 2009.

Performances

I've performed at jazz festivals here in Israel and at various venues abroad. You can see me singing the "Dead Sea Blues" in Capetown if you ask very nicely (or just click here).
